Initially, using the thermometer was inaccurate as we were hovering thermometer above the forehead. Larer we realise to get a more accurate readering and consistent readout is to place the thermometer touching your forehead in the middle of your forehead. First off .. as I write I have no way off assessing accuracy.... so will come back in 3 months to update accuracy score if needed....because I will take it to hospital and check against their thermometer scores. BUT IVE QUICKLY ESTABLISHED THAT THIS THING IS SENSITIVE TO ROOM TEMP WHEN USING IT AS A HEAD THERMOMETER..AND IT WILL REFLECT THE ROOMS TEMP AT 5CM FROM FOREHEAD..... SO WITH THIS IN MIND and using info provided and gathered on other sites... I decided to use the IN EAR option and place it DIRECTLY AND CONSISTANTLY on a flat area of my ear just outside the entrance to the ear canal...... going at all inside will raise the temp on all in ear thermometers. SO having established a consistent test zone of skin ... and by only testing on that part of my ear ... im getting VERY CONSISTENT readings..WHICH IS THE CRITICAL FUNCTION. This thing can read surface temperatures of anything but will be "INFLUENCED" by room temp... especially in taost warn centrally heated rooms . that said ......I will still measure against hospital temp readings at that exact same place in my ear...and report back . So that said ....MAJOR PLUS....is that this box is factory sealed... so that you know you have a non returned item. Ive just wasted weeks of my time plus driver miles on the road returning products by Braun THAT ARE NOT FACTORY SEALED.......these are important health products...and should be in anti tamper packaging AND THIS IS so 10/10 right there. Next IMPORTANT THING is to let the unit acclimatise to your room temperature after delivery for at least 30 mins . Next GREAT THING is its either an EAR OR FOREHEAD reader... 10/10 right there. Also if used as an ear type... THERE ARE NO DISPOSABLE PLASCTIC CAPS TO FIT THAT CAN INTERFERE WITH READINGS ...if I could thats 11/10 right there... no ongoing cost.!!!.and for household use not necessary.. I have iso wipes to hand cause of covid if I want to clean the probe for ear use if necessary. Next is the materials used.... the back side is shiny white plastic... nice... but the top side is a black slightly more grippy texture ... which is fab for controlling the only 2 buttons on that surface...... so uncluttered and grippy 10/10 there also. The on /off button is crisp. the screen is clear and QUICK. With the cap on it knows you are doing a head reading...so hold 5 cm away and press the only other button .. the one with a thermometer symbol on it...and bingo... a second or so later a crisp reading... colour coded ( I think for adults ) for alert and warning status as based on St Johns Ambulance guidelines. Take the cap off and it knows you are " in ear " mode... insert and press the thermometer button ..and as before a second or so later you get the reading. again 10/10 for ease. You get a quick use quality little credit card size booklet which I Keep with the unit and a VERY WELL THOUGHT OUT small user manual that describes the ranges of temperatures that different areas of the body will register ( eg. rectal most accurate .. especially in babies...but inconvenient to take..) so there's a little table for this info for those that need it.... it also includes great info about the times at which our bodies may naturally run a little warmer or cooler etc...and although thats not person specific its food for thought to help you develop an understanding especially useful if you are doing regular temp check as part of monitoring a for a medical situation. For a quick check to see if your kids temp is ok for school I think the quick guide looks great KNOWLEDGE is power.... so I love it 10/10 it has SOUND ON/ OFF OPTION 10/10 Negs . OK POSSIBLY A DEAL BREAKER FOR SOME....... the unit ONLY GIVES ORANGE WARNING FOR TEMP RANGE 37.2 C - 38.2. C !! ....for babies and young children and monitoring some medical conditions ( eg. Sepsis monitoring ). -37.5.C to 37.8 C is the warning stage and should be IN RED !!!!! .... this in my book is ok for me because Im switched on enough to know this.... BUT A YOUNG INEXPERIENCED MOTHER would need something flagging red BEFORE 38. ANYTHING !!!!!! SO ..... 2/10 here.... an an INSTANT DEAL BREAKER for many users. ALSO for the price they could have included a small bag to protect it. 2/10 SO almost perfect FOR SOME USERS (. SUBJECT TO MY ACCURACY TESTS AT THE HOSPITAL CONFIRMING) NOT RECOMMENDED for use on BABIES AND YOUNG CHILDREN !!!!!!! Purchased this based on it being recommended by the NHS. It's really easy to use, however the last few weeks it's been giving really inaccurate readings (constantly saying temps are around 36 degrees) when in actuality it was a temp of 39! We knew that wasn't right so had to dig out a 16 year old thermometer which gave a proper reading! Really disappointed with this and now a waste of money for us with no way of getting help from seller on here. Would advise everyone to stick to a traditional method of checking as it's more reliable.

I bought this as undergoing chemotherapy treatment and I have to take my temperature every day. I only use the ear reading. I brought this into the chemo suite and compared it's reading to the hospital 'under-the-tongue' thermometer. It was accurate to +/- 0.1°, so quite reliable. It is very easy to use and the reading itself only takes 1-2 seconds - quite useful if trying to take a reading from a wriggling child. It doesn't need any of those protective covers, so its an upfront cost. I really can't think of any downsides to its use, accuracy or style...maybe a pouch to put it in when not in use? I'd recommend this thermometer for its simplicity of use and accuracy.

This is a great digital thermometer, which can be used contactless or in-ear. The ability to use it contactless is especially useful with babies and toddlers. We originally purchased a child thermometer from a well known German make which had to be used in-ear and frankly it was so difficult to use that it was next to useless. With this however you just point at the child's forehead from about 2 or 3 cm and take a reading. If you do need to take an in-ear reading then that's simple too - just unscrew the front cover to expose the in-ear probe (no fiddling with disposable ear caps). A final bonus is that it's easy to use to take a temperature reading of hot liquids or food. Heartily recommended.

We bought this as an 'unboxed' item, thus saving a bit of money - which I am grateful for. It hadn't just been unboxed though - the ear piece had ear-wax in it, so I am not sure that Amazon were very accurate in their representation. Just grateful we hadn't bought an unboxed colonic irrigation set... Anyway... It works, and despite the ripped and battered state of the packaging, it does not appear to be damaged.
